Whilst TimeSplitters fans are still petitioning hard for an HD collection or the elusive fourth title in the series, Crytek have thrown them a bone in the form of the TimeSplitters CryEngine Mod.
In a status update on the 100,000 Strong for Timesplitters 4 Facebook Page, the page owner states that “I have just had word from Crytek that they are going to permit and support a TimeSplitters CryEngine mod.” The status update also informed fans that Crytek may also let the team use assets from the original TimeSplitters game.
The groups plan for the TimeSplitters CryEngine mod is to create “TimeSplitters All-In-One” – a TimeSplitters game that contains all the levels, all the characters and all the weapons from every game in the series. That’s a lot of content and is going to be one hell of an undertaking.
In a recent interview, former Free Radical staff members Steve Ellis and Karl Hilton explained just why we shouldn’t hold out much hope of seeing TimeSplitters 4 hitting the shelves anytime soon. However, Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli has also stated we could be seeing a TimeSplitters HD Collection if the petition reaches 300,000 signatures.
Whilst we may not get the official title we’ve been holding out for, this fan-made game may just be the next best thing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this TimeSplitters mega-game comes to fruition and ends up being as successful as Black Mesa.
