Whilst booth babes were a hot topic at Eurogamer Expo this year, the sexual discrimination message they project to some doesn’t remotely compare to a series of sexual harassments shown in a YouTube video from a seemingly Razer sponsored attendee, YouTuber KSIOlajidebt.

KSI turned the video “private” at 23.50 on 5th Oct. This is a fan re-upload.

In a video titled “KSI being awkward in Eurogamer”, YouTuber KSIOlajidebt (real name Olajide Olatunji) sexually assaults a spokesmodel before naming another “Massive Tits” and asking a series of inappropriate questions to female attendees, including the absolutely vile “What are you doing not fingering yourself?”.

The spokesmodel who was motorboated, glamour model Brandy Brewer, stated on Twitter “Look I’m not 14 yrs old and @KSIOlajidebt is hardly Jimmy Saville I consented to the motorboat it’s called comedy……relax” however none of the other women in the video appear to have consented.

Booth babes and spokesmodels such as those seen in the video agreeing to be motorboated unfortunately have to put up with this sort of harassment from idiots like KSIOlajidebt (though they certainly shouldn’t), but walking up to expo attendees and asking them sexually inappropriate questions and making suggestive movements is just plain wrong.

Unfortunately, KSIOlajidebt is somewhat of a YouTube celebrity with just over 650,000 subscribers and over 213 million views. He also appears to be affiliated with PC hardware manufacturer Razer, having made several CultofRazer videos on YouTube. Judging from the majority of comments on the video, his fanbase support his behaviour – even going as far as to blame his actions on his victims.

One commenter stated “Judging by the girls crappy accent and sluttish attitude I’d say this in the UK, therefore I’m not surprised that these wenches let a random black guy walk up to them and do whatever he pleases.” whilst others just call the females in the video “sluts”, that “this is hilarious” and that “KSI IS MY HERO”.

KSI - "A man's man"

UPDATE 1: Tom Bramwell and Ellie Gibson from Eurogamer have stated that KSI will be banned from all future shows.

A representative from Razer commented on the matter by stating “KSIOlajidebt is a pro gamer in the UK that Razer invited to the Eurogamer Expo to shoot some community videos for our site. After KSIOlajidebt was done with his work for Razer, he went on to shoot video on his own for his own channel, outside of Razer’s input or approval, during the show. The resulting video was not and is not content with which Razer wishes to be associated.”

UPDATE 2: Olajidebt has “apologised” on Twitter stating “Just want to apologise to the people I may have offended with the “awkward in eurogamer” video. My intent was never to sexual harass.”

UPDATE 22/11/13: Following KSI’s involvement with the Xbox One launch event in London, Matt Lees of VideoGamer.com put up this superb video explaining why brands really need to reassess their involvement with KSI. It was shortly removed due to a copyright claim from KSI.

You can also find an article on the subject of why brands need to reassess working with KSI as well as a recent statement from his manager here.

UPDATE 3/8/14: For some peculiar reason, almost two years after the incident, KSI has published a Q&A Sunday video with Brandy Brewer. The first question is “have you ever had a threesome”, the second is whether she can touch her elbows together, and KSI repeatedly calls her a slut in the voice over, so you can probably imagine what to expect…

What are your thoughts on KSI’s actions and Eurogamer Expo and brands endorsing this sort of behaviour? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter and Facebook.

First, they agreed to it. If someone agrees to sex is it called rape? The answer is no, just to clarify it for all the ignorant people who read this(not saying everyone who reads this comment is ignorant). And as for the questions, they are questions. Asking questions dealing with sex is not sexual harassment. The ignorance in this article, the author, and the comments agreeing with the article are quite hilarious though. So thank you for making me laugh at all of the ignorance on this page.

Our culture is broken when people think being rude and sexually harassing people is "comedy" and they actually laugh at it. There were some funny moments in the video, but a lot of it left me uncomfortable and feeling bad for some of the people. I know some of the girls were laughing in discomfort. Some of them were cool with the "humor" but a lot of them looked uncomfortable and scared. The one even tried to walk away and he even kept hounding her.

OMFG you are soo fucking boring, he is a funny guy and you take thing soo fucking seriously, fair enough he did some stuff wrong, but you dont have to antagonize him like that just because he was being funny. I mean the title of 'YouTube Celeb KSI Sexually Harasses Attendees At Expo' sounds fucking ridicules. Just Fuck you!

She said he could motorboat her and you can't just kick him out of you tube coz he's worked hard to be there and that's his job he's just a comedian on you tube.

This is bloody ridiculous...some people need to get a sense of humor don't ya think? Those "booth babes" were quite fine with the whole awkwardness and hey it looks like she enjoyed that motorboat

While everyone is entitled to his or her own opinions, judging a man by his youtube comments is the most idiotic thing one could possible do. Especially with such a large fanbase, the portion of preteens and otherwise immature children would me immesurable. Those who think it's cool to swear and and call women words like slut or wenches, they watch too much porn. Or something. Just walking through any college in Australia you would be astounded how many times you hear "oh you facking cunt" in a single day. This is not even considering the amount of "trolls" on the internet you go around being generally rude or otherwise riling arguement purely for the reactions. I've seen songs with the topic of WW2 go into arguements about ethnics and nazis, and others much worse. If you don't like KSI then don't bloody go watching his videos just to write a hate article on him.

TBH he's a childish irresponsible pervert who never age restricts his videos (its right in the upload for gods sake) even now 29 1 14 he's showing his 14 year old fans how his girlfriend gives him a blow job !!!

you tube should remove him, and his parents are to blame 100% one sick family

oh and as for the spokes model

Brandy_Brewer , well more like spokes slut, perverter of children

I have no problem with crass humor, he got away with what most people can't, like it or not that's some skill, if you had asked that woman to motorboat, lets be honest most would get turned down.

But he's the type of jerk that tries to copy right flag people who are critical of him, which is the mark of the permanent victim types, the thin skin types, the types who silence dissent, oddly enough he's in the same boat as those feminist types, like the anita sarkeesians who go around trying to trample dissent, and that's why he needs to go away.

I blame "E-Sports" and the culture that came along with it. Gaming had a whole different feel even as little as 5 years ago. "E-Sports" has created a douche-bag atmosphere in the gaming community. similar to high school sports.

Ben Cordell is an idiot! The spokesmodel was right. It is comedy. You, Cordell, are a dry shrivelled up ballsack, who has no taste in comedy. KSI'S job is to be entertaining and so he does what he does for his fans and clearly does not sexual harrass them!

How is this entertainment! I surprised nobody punched the guy. What a moron with no respect for anyone. A cheap disgusting way to get exposure, this right here is everything that is wrong with the internet! I'm sure all his 12 yo fanbase will love it though, how pathetic

Trying to get views for your site, BRILLIANT.(not) Your a f*cking retard Ben Cordell you ugly wanker. You should go and probably try and get views from KassemG, he got consent from Brandy, he didn't ask any of the other girls on there to Motorboat them, and NEVER did. Seriously "People like you need to be taken outside and shot" - Jeremy Clarkson... NOW FUCK OFF :)

Can not believe there are people not only defending this KSI guy but attacking StickTwiddlers for this article! Some of KSI's actions aren't that bad but speaking to random people in the manner that he does in many of these cases is not acceptable and certainly is not any more acceptable just because it's funny. He's lucky he didn't get physically thrown out of there.

MRL20
MRL20

Pretty sad. There are real issues out there of people being being abused and assaulted. But news sites would rather make fake controversy and harass some man over silly videos he made in an attempt to get views. If it was some woman making sexual jokes about guys everyone would be laughing and no one would care.

Is hiring "booth babes" part of the project on tackling sexual discrimination?

For those confused, the OED.com definition of sexual harassment is: "sexual harassment n. harassment (typically of a woman by a man) in a workplace or other professional or social situation, involving the making of unwanted sexual advances, obscene remarks, etc." If he meant to or not is a different thing, but it really can be classed as sexual harassment.

Alice
Alice

The booth babe was ok with the motorboating, which is fine, but is a public area of an event open to children the right place for this? The members of the public are quite clearly NOT ok with this either. The blonde girl's body language is extremely defensive and she moves to be back in the group of her friends straight away, putting them between herself and him. It's not ok to make someone feel threatened and uncomfortable like this. Being interviewed out of the blue often makes people nervous anyway, but to add the sexual element to it is just too much and not needed. Other sections of the video show that he obviously can be funny and quick-witted, it's just gone too far here.

Whoever wrote this article and whoever thinks the KSI video was Harassment is an utter moron, who needs to get a life. KSI > You

TheDragonL0rd
TheDragonL0rd

And if you don't like the videos, then leave. It isn't harassment in any way but if you don't like the videos then just don't watch them. Simple solution is simple.

And just to add, even the people who DID seem awkward, their faces could not have been in the video without their consent. But no one's face was blurred out. There is no need to reply because I stumbled upon this site and I am probably never coming to it again. Not because of this ignorant article, but because I just do not want to.

@Tazaty Not finding sexual harassment funny makes me boring? That's fine with me.

And you're quite right, the title 'YouTube Celeb KSI Sexually Harassess Attendees At Expo" does sound ridiculous. You would imagine that anyone would be able to attend an expo or simply go about their daily life and not be sexually harassed by anyone.

BenMeetsWorld

@hanigan798 So what about all the other people he went up to?

As I mentioned before, everyone who comes to his defence always brings up Brandy Brewer (who did consent) but they all seem to overlook the other incidents.

with over 650 thousand subscribers on his Youtube channel , i dont think their all 12 , i myself , am not 12. Now that that is sorted i will now move onto you're lack of understanding. KSI is a well known Youtuber , he was invited to the EA event for FIFA 13 for god sake, Razor sponsor him , and with his previous video history you have to understand that he lives of ov his Youtube channel , he was simply demonstrating the genre of comedy "Crude Humor" , now , i get that this isn't everyones cup of tea but ,AS CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS!, is humorous to people, the girls in this video never once said to KSI , don't show that, don't tape me , if they did he would have to stop and delete the recorded footage. Now that i have resolved your main argument in your post i will continue onto your comment "right here is everything that is wrong with the internet!" now , you seriously think that this is worse than the videos uploaded daily to different sites all over the internet of public rapes , people killing enother , suicide tapes , physical disputes and Bullying to the point of suicidal videos asking for help. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THIS VIDEO OF KSI IS "SCRAPING THE BOTTOM OF THE ONLINE VIDEO BARREL?". Eh? , didn't think so. I hope you continue on to have a shitty day.

MRL20
MRL20

I think part of the big problem is everyone calling it sexual harassment when it is clearly not. If one of those women was offended and filed a police report and he got arrested for sexual harassment, then I could understand the title of the article. The women in the video were fine with it, some even came out and said so. If anyone is being sexual harassed it's KSI. I might even go so far as to assume people are harassing him because of his race and the race of the women his touched. I've even heard people call those women tramps and other derogatory names for not being offended and saying it was alright for him to touch them.

Rupert from Eurogamer has already released a statement about the booth babes at this years event in response to public outcry. They too are banned from all future Eurogamer Expo's. You can read the statement here http://www.eurogamer.net/forum/thread/242422

Too bad that she consented to the action, then at a later date she then said “Look I’m not 14 yrs old and @KSIOlajidebt is hardly Jimmy Saville I consented to the motorboat it’s called comedy……” on Twitter. Even if she wanted to sue him she couldnt because of the fact that she was consenting the action.

Jen

Spot on. Why is everyone so fixated on issue of 'consent' with the booth babe? That personally for me wasn't the segment of the video that aroused concern. The girls stood by the Hitman photo booth were clearly not comfortable with what was going on at all. They might well have agreed to be interviewed, but I doubt very much they were expecting that to be thrown at them. Everything up to that point you could pass off as obnoxious laddish behaviour, but that went too far. Intentional or not, that was sexual harrassment and it really turned my stomach to watch it. The booth babe might well have given her consent and that's fine, but what really blows my mind is that people think that is acceptable behaviour in the first place? I had a browse at his Twitter feed and he actually seems like an otherwise levelheaded bloke, but this really did go too far.

brfkey
brfkey

@BenMeetsWorld @hanigan798 If their faces weren't blurred out in the video then he had their consent. If the other girls beside Brandy had a problem with what he was saying and being filmed they wouldn't have been shown.

@Whitby2229 So if you're popular, you're automatically great at everything you do all the time? Who cares if EA invite him along to FIFA events, he's still a moron. Unfortunately there is many idiots in the world who will enjoy this kind of thing

KSI is being sexually harrassed? How did you figure that one out? And seriously, you're saying the blonde girl at the Hitman booth seemed ok with what he was saying and doing?

Ben Cordell
Ben Cordell

For the purposes of this Act, a person subjects a woman to harassment if— (a)on the ground of her sex, he engages in unwanted conduct that has the purpose or effect— (i)of violating her dignity, or (ii)of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for her, (b)he engages in any form of unwanted verbal, non-verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that has the purpose or effect— (i)of violating her dignity, or (ii)of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for her, or (c)on the ground of her rejection of or submission to unwanted conduct of a kind mentioned in paragraph (a) or (b), he treats her less favourably than he would treat her had she not rejected, or submitted to, the conduct. It's fairly clear that what he is doing is this video is sexual harassment according to the UK legislation. The only women in the video that I've been made aware of that was fine with it was the woman who was motorboated. If you're able to provide links to others in the video who have spoken out, I would be more than happy to include them. I don't see how you can perceive that KSI is being sexually harassed in this scenario and I can assure you that this article is based on his actions, not his race. I've seen what YouTube commenters are saying about the women in the video and it's just as vile.

If the booth babes are banned, then eurogamer is gonna need some luck if they wanna sell tickets next year. They are already overshadowed by gamescom, pax, e3, comiccon, but now I doubt they will be able to hold another convention with the amount of revenue they're gonna lose.

You're all incredibly focused on the spokesmodel who got motorboated. As I state in the article, it was not sexual assault as she consented. However, others in the video did not which you all seem to overlook.

The entire blog post is overly righteous at some guy being a complete arse. Let the event organisers handle it and move on. I agree it's in poor taste - but why write all this superfluous nonsense? Is it news to you that some people are dicks? Don't try and turn it to make some kind of comment on society like an armchair warrior - it makes a mockery of real issues of sexism, something I see far too often nowadays. What's more, there's nothing wrong with booth babes. Let people be free, and let the girls have jobs if they want to. Sex is a part of life. Don't impose your stupid, haughty morals on all of us.

Mandy

"Like I said if this was a girl doing this same bit to guys, none of you would be up in arms about this." We wouldn't? You can say that without a doubt? Because I can tell you already you're wrong. If Ksi had been a girl it wouldn't have made the questions any less offensive: asking people why they're not fingering themselves is offensive regardless of who it comes from. Ditto demanding to know why a girl has small breasts and insulting her for it. Ksi isn't being attacked because of his race or gender. He's being made an example of because what he did was wrong. The only person who can unequivocably say "I felt harassed" is each of the girls Ksi spoke to, you're right, but we can still object to the idea that a man was allowed to go around the Expo floor asking girls those sorts of questions. "Do you walk down the street and think that every women who gets touched is being sexually harassed?" No, but if I walked down the street and a man with a camera stopped me and asked me why I wasn't fingering myself I really fucking would think I was being sexually harassed and, under UK legislation, I'd be right to think so.

MRL20
MRL20

He is being harassed because of either his sex or race. Like I said if this was a girl doing this same bit to guys, none of you would be up in arms about this. The only person who can say if their dignity was violated, or they were degraded is the person that it happened to. Do you walk down the street and think that every women who gets touched is being sexually harassed?

Seeing as EGX is only 4 years old and has increased attendance massively every year, I don't think banning booth babes is going to be a problem. As you mention, PAX and E3 are both huge events and both of them have banned booth babes way before this.
