Whilst booth babes were a hot topic at Eurogamer Expo this year, the sexual discrimination message they project to some doesn’t remotely compare to a series of sexual harassments shown in a YouTube video from a seemingly Razer sponsored attendee, YouTuber KSIOlajidebt.
In a video titled “KSI being awkward in Eurogamer”, YouTuber KSIOlajidebt (real name Olajide Olatunji) sexually assaults a spokesmodel before naming another “Massive Tits” and asking a series of inappropriate questions to female attendees, including the absolutely vile “What are you doing not fingering yourself?”.
The spokesmodel who was motorboated, glamour model Brandy Brewer, stated on Twitter “Look I’m not 14 yrs old and @KSIOlajidebt is hardly Jimmy Saville I consented to the motorboat it’s called comedy……relax” however none of the other women in the video appear to have consented.
Booth babes and spokesmodels such as those seen in the video agreeing to be motorboated unfortunately have to put up with this sort of harassment from idiots like KSIOlajidebt (though they certainly shouldn’t), but walking up to expo attendees and asking them sexually inappropriate questions and making suggestive movements is just plain wrong.
Unfortunately, KSIOlajidebt is somewhat of a YouTube celebrity with just over 650,000 subscribers and over 213 million views. He also appears to be affiliated with PC hardware manufacturer Razer, having made several CultofRazer videos on YouTube. Judging from the majority of comments on the video, his fanbase support his behaviour – even going as far as to blame his actions on his victims.
One commenter stated “Judging by the girls crappy accent and sluttish attitude I’d say this in the UK, therefore I’m not surprised that these wenches let a random black guy walk up to them and do whatever he pleases.” whilst others just call the females in the video “sluts”, that “this is hilarious” and that “KSI IS MY HERO”.
UPDATE 1: Tom Bramwell and Ellie Gibson from Eurogamer have stated that KSI will be banned from all future shows.
A representative from Razer commented on the matter by stating “KSIOlajidebt is a pro gamer in the UK that Razer invited to the Eurogamer Expo to shoot some community videos for our site. After KSIOlajidebt was done with his work for Razer, he went on to shoot video on his own for his own channel, outside of Razer’s input or approval, during the show. The resulting video was not and is not content with which Razer wishes to be associated.”
UPDATE 2: Olajidebt has “apologised” on Twitter stating “Just want to apologise to the people I may have offended with the “awkward in eurogamer” video. My intent was never to sexual harass.”
UPDATE 22/11/13: Following KSI’s involvement with the Xbox One launch event in London, Matt Lees of VideoGamer.com put up this superb video explaining why brands really need to reassess their involvement with KSI. It was shortly removed due to a copyright claim from KSI.
