A solitary image from San Diego Comic Con has given Metal Gear fans a look a Metal Gear Solid 5, now revealed as Project Ogre.
The image was posted to Reddit and granted, it’s only a title logo but it’s certainly something to get excited about!.
The logo has also revealed that the OGRE in Project Ogre stands for Open Ground Reconnaissance Endeavors, the sub-title for Metal Gear Solid 5. The text beneath it reads “The moment we were cast out of heaven, we became monsters.”
Hideo Kojima has stated previously that Project Ogre “is some game that has a very wide entrance, a very open entrance” and that “rather than making something very cinematic, [I plan to] make something very free.”
He also previously said when the first screenshot for Project Ogre was released that the title is “a little bit different to what I’ve done up until now. On the surface it will look similar, but once you get into it, it will be a different experience.” That certainly ties up with the familiar look of Metal Gear but with the inclusion of this new open-entrance feel.
We have contacted Konami and Kojima Productions, who are developing Project Ogre on their new FOX Engine, for a statement around the legitimacy of the image. The Konami UK Twitter feed has tweeted in response that “Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation!”
UPDATE 1: Three more images, containing dialogue “A paradise is born of the bloodstained Earth”, “Would she have wanted this?”, and “That doesn’t matter now.”, have appeared via Gametrailers Forums that look to be taken from a different angle.
UPDATE 2: Hideo Kojima has tweeted the following response to the logo: “Since I’ve received inquiries about the MGS5 title screen/the announcement made at ComicCon which I had no idea of, I looked up on the net and found the source. But pls note that title logo is completely FAKE. I apologize to those who were looking forward. Anyway it proved I can still create the buzz.”
