A job posting on the website of development studio Sledgehammer Games has confirmed that they are working on the next installment in the Call Of Duty series. The posting is for a Senior FX Artist to help “create the most exceptional real-time effects with hyper realism for [its] next Call of Duty game”.
Sledgehammer worked with Infinity Ward to develop last years hit Modern Warfare 3, and have said that they would love to work with the guys at IW again. However, as Infinity Ward are hard at work on an unannounced next-gen project, it looks like they may be working on something new.
Sledgehammer were previously working on a third-person spin off from the massively popular first person COD series, so there is the possibility that they are returning to that project. It’s much more likely however, given Activision’s tendency towards an annual release for the series, that this title will be another first-person outing.
Studio head Glen Schofield said last year that he wanted to develop “at least one more first-person shooter”. Looks like you’ve got your chance, chief.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is scheduled for release on November 13th 2012 for X360, PS3 and PC.
