As you are all probably aware, Rockstar officially announced GTA V today. However, all the chaps over at Rockstar teased us with was a logo and the date of when the initial trailer for what is most likely the most highly anticipated title in the world right now.

Fortunately enough for you though, due to a chance encounter with an industry professional about two weeks ago, we here at StickTwiddlers are able to bring you a brief glimpse of what gameplay animation in GTA V will most probably look like. Ready? Watch this video…

Now some of you may recognise this as action game Eight Days, a title that was being developed by SCE London Studio for the PlayStation 3 around four to five years ago and was recently put on hold. You are probably asking exactly what Eight Days has to do with the announcement of GTA V and it’s gameplay and it’s here that I have to take you back to my random encounter.

The industry professional I met was showing me clips of Eight Days on their laptop and after commenting about how impressed I was with the dynamic movement of the characters and their integration with the environment, the professional let slip that one of the animators who worked on Eight Days is now currently working on GTA V.

After a bit of investigative journalism, I can only assume that this animator is Jim Jagger. Jim’s resume on his personal site states that between April 2006 and September 2009, he worked as the Principal Animator on Eight Days, specifically in the role of Character & Animation Director. Listings on his LinkedIn profile also back this up.

If you look back to his resume, we can now see that Jim Jagger is currently employed since October 2009 by Rockstar North as the Lead Animator on a “T.B.A project”. I think it’s safe to assume that that T.B.A will soon read ‘GTA V’.

So there we have it. We could be seeing some truly incredible things in terms of character animation and environment interaction from GTA V and it’s no surprise that this is going to be one of the most talked about and anticipated titles in the upcoming months to its release. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the official debut trailer brings when its released on November 2nd.

What do you think of the animation in Eight Days? Is this what you would expect to see in GTA V? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter and Facebook.

I would rather it play like sanandreas it was easy to control and actualy a fun game. Gta 4 on the other hand felt like it was stuck and that i could not get going, its only gonna get worse with them trying to make it more realistic its a game not real life when will they learn!

Rockstar always put animations where you don't want them. Like the minigames have a second intro of your player sitting down and it just makes the whole thing slow. It's not game breaking but drags 80 hours in

So GTA V will be a shooter on rails with most animation being taken out of your control?

great article. i am happily informed. hyped to the max for gta5. hope they introduce a new location and not a recycling of past locations but with the game being debuted so quickly i doubt it will be a new location.

so what if GTAV or 8 Days as a superb animation. The game is still a generic 3rd person shooter. Devs should start moving towards immersion gameplay. Like trying to make a more immersive control option like Shadow of the Colossus. Get dynamic animation cannot surpass immersive animation.

I normally don't comment on articles like this; however, for this I will make an exception. This article is what games journalism should be like. Real investigation into the meet of the stories. Congrats to the writer of this article, this is one of the best I have seen in a while. I hope you have great success as a journalist in the industry.

Impressive, you actually did some homework to come up with a scoop here. And you didn't state this like it's fact and gospel. Well done! :) We need more articles like this.

If I see or hear of the "Euphoria Engine" it's a quick NO for me. It ruined GTA4 for me.
